2. de vorbire, de conversaţie;
to be on speaking terms (with smb.) a cunoaşte (pe cineva) îndeajuns pentru a sta de vorbă cu el;
not to be on speaking terms (with smb.) a nu vorbi, a fi certat (cu cineva);
speaking acquaintance persoană pe care o cunoşti doar într-atât încât să-i dai bună-ziua şi să schimbi câteva cuvinte cu ea.
